In the second day of the Womens Olympic Basketball games, four of six games ended in wins over 20points. Spain, Czech Republic, Belarus and USA National team dominated their opponents.
Spain was lead by Isabel Sanchez who scored 19 points off the bench, who came back the second day with a 23point win over New Zealand.
The second game was a great effort by Czech Republic who recovered confidence after losing big to USA on Saturday. The Czechs gained momentum after leading 23-4 in the first quarter over Mali.
Belarus charged over Latvia in the 2nd half to get a 22point win (79-57). Belarus did have four players in double figures with Yelena Leuchanka scoring a game high 22pts .
Team USA started the game against host country China with vengeance after losing earlier this summer in the Beijing Good Luck Games Final. Tina Thompson was the spark plug for the USA by scoring 21pts in the first half. The USA Womens Basketball Team lead the first quarter by 21pts (31-10) and finished the half 61-27. Tough defense caused turnovers by China and surge of offense by Team USA and the final score was short 6 pts from most points by womens team in the Olympic Games (108-63).
Only three teams remain undefeated: Australia, Russia and USA going into Wednesday’s 3rd day games.
