Qi Zhou

South East Melbourne Phoenix (NBL) signed 25-year old Chinese center Qi Zhou (217cm-98kg) for upcoming 2021-22 season. Zhou has played for the last two seasons at Xinjiang Flying Tigers in Chinese CBA league. In 44 games he had very impressive stats: 20.7ppg, 11.9rpg (#5 in the league), 2.7apg, 1.1spg and 2.3bpg last season. 2020-21 was a great year as he was named to Asia-Basket.com All-Chinese CBA 2nd Team, All-Domestic Players Team and League Player of the Week (3 times).
In 2016 he was drafted by Houston Rockets (NBA) in second round (43rd overall).
He represented China at the Asian Games in Jakarta (Indonesia) three years ago.
Zhou has played previously professionally in USA and NBA G League (Rio Grande Valley Vipers).
The list of the past achievements is quite long as among others his team was regular season runner-up in Chinese CBA in 2020. He was also voted Asia-Basket.com All-Chinese CBA Defensive Player of the Year in 2015, 2016, 2017 and 2020.
Zhou could be described:
A skinny inside player who runs the court exrtremely well and has soft hands. Yet very effective at juvenile level, plays with great ease, defends very well, but needs to improve his ball control and dribbling. Has a nice upside, if he will beef up. More than with Yao MIng, he can be compared to Yi Jianlian, with a future at the 4 position too
.
