Yep, you read the title correct. Ming has been very busy since he retired from the NBA, and what seems to be a very smart move considering the current lockout situation. Yao Ming has formed a new product of his own based out of California, Yao Family Wines, partnered with the Napa Valley wine company.

Yao Ming Wine, which will make its debut this Sunday night at an auction held by Special Olympics East Asia, which organizes sports competitions for the intellectually disabled.

Yao Ming may  be out of the NBA but still running things great as an entrepreneur. We are sure to possibly see a workout program of some sort for basketball for large players like Yao.

The most famous Chinese basketball player ever produced, Yao Ming, retires from the NBA. Due to injuries during the last five years, Yao is unable to come back.

“Today is an important day for me and holds a special meaning for both my basketball career and my future,” Yao said in comments translated into English. “I had to leave the court since I suffered a stress fracture in my left foot for the third time at the end of last year. My past six months were an agonizing wait. I had been thinking (about my future) over and over. Today I am announcing a personal decision, ending my career as a basketball player and officially retire. But one door is closing and another one is opening.”

Even though Yao Ming is once again suffering through a long term injury – this time with a stress fracture in his ankle – but he was still one of the leading vote getter for the upcoming NBA All-Star game. The NBA’s All-Star Weekend will take place from February 18th to 20th.

Those betting the NBA spread know that know that he won’t be playing in the contest as he is currently rehabbing his ankle. In his stead, the Minnesota Timberwolves forward Kevin Love will attending.

Yao was voted into to be the West’s starting center and it’s actually the eighth time in nine seasons that he has been an All-Star. Without a doubt, the votes from China have helped boost his All-Star status a few years, such as this one. His fractured ankle injury could end his career but it didn’t keep him from being named to the All-Star team.

The 30-year-old center underwent surgery on January 6th after playing just five games this season. In most cases, the NBA requires players to attend the All-Star Game if they are voted in but Yao will be exempt as he is dealing with the rehab after his surgery.

Some people feel the NBA All-Star voting system is flawed because of cases exactly like this but the fans wanted to see him there and this game is very much for the fans. Hopefully next year he is healthy enough to qualify and attend.

Yao Ming out with a stress fracture in his left ankle which is closely related to his past year long injury and rehability of the Tarsal Navicular bone. These hard injuries are inevitable for Ming who is 7″5 and playing in the highest level league in the world “NBA”. The future is still pending for the center and the NBA.

With only one day left until the Beijing Olympics Opening Ceremony, Yao Ming will be the flag bearer for China. Ming is the most celebrated professional athlete in China and hopes to bring home a gold medal for China Basketball.
