“Today is an important day for me and holds a special meaning for both my basketball career and my future,” Yao said in comments translated into English. “I had to leave the court since I suffered a stress fracture in my left foot for the third time at the end of last year. My past six months were an agonizing wait. I had been thinking (about my future) over and over. Today I am announcing a personal decision, ending my career as a basketball player and officially retire. But one door is closing and another one is opening.”

The Chinese Basketball Association issued an apology to the Brazilian players and immediately barred the Chinese squad from practice while an investigation is carried out.

Violent scenes of Chinese players brawling were beamed around the world, tarnishing the country’s sporting reputation further.

“The CBA takes full responsibility for this,” said Li Jinsheng, vice president of the organisation.

“We have ordered the team to suspend its training and to reflect upon its mistakes deeply. The CBA sincerely apologizes to the Brazilian team, all the fans and media.”

Iverson is still looking for a team. Just recently he opted to check out offers from a team in China and sources say that he rejected an offer of $4million for the season. Right now Allen Iverson doesn’t have too many offers, especially in the NBA. Maybe he’ll find the answer soon. Similarly, Stephon Marbury is doing great in China and coming back for another season. Great career move that he made a couple of years back.

Stephon Marbury has committed to sign with Chinese Pro Team Shanxi Zhongyu after declining a call from the Miami Heat to join their super squad for a 2010-2011 season in the NBA.

The Chinese club signed a three-year contract with the former Phoenix Suns guard, with an option for Marbury to become a semi-coach in the third year, but declined to release financial details.

In respect of the commercial part of the deal, the club will help Marbury promote the sale of his personal sneakers brand in China. The 33-year-old Marbury, who played a half season with the Shanxi Zhongyu last season, averaged 19.3 points, 7.6 assists and 3.0 rebounds in his 13 years in the NBA.

A heavy blow for Stankovic Cup host China  in their first day loss to the Australian Boomers. Yi Jianlian lead China and the game in scoring but it was not enough for China to win the very close game against Australia. Team China was caught with too many fouls and thus the offense was slow. David Andersen for Australia could not be reckoned with on either ends of the court. But his smooth shot and vision is what helped the Boomers stick out a close win against China.

Tomorrow China faces Iran who also was defeated in a blow out against Slovenia.
