The most famous Chinese basketball player ever produced, Yao Ming, retires from the NBA. Due to injuries during the last five years, Yao is unable to come back.

“Today is an important day for me and holds a special meaning for both my basketball career and my future,” Yao said in comments translated into English. “I had to leave the court since I suffered a stress fracture in my left foot for the third time at the end of last year. My past six months were an agonizing wait. I had been thinking (about my future) over and over. Today I am announcing a personal decision, ending my career as a basketball player and officially retire. But one door is closing and another one is opening.”

China Men’s Basketball team has been suspended from a month of training after getting into a brawl against Brazil during a warm-up game before the Asian Games.

The Chinese Basketball Association issued an apology to the Brazilian players and immediately barred the Chinese squad from practice while an investigation is carried out.

Violent scenes of Chinese players brawling were beamed around the world, tarnishing the country’s sporting reputation further.

“The CBA takes full responsibility for this,” said Li Jinsheng, vice president of the organisation.

“We have ordered the team to suspend its training and to reflect upon its mistakes deeply. The CBA sincerely apologizes to the Brazilian team, all the fans and media.”

Changchun is the second stop of Kobe 24 Live. On July 27, he watched the North China final of Nike Summer Basketball, interacted with audience, attended a commercial activity, and had close communication with Chinese young players. He taught about 30 young players in the noon, and these talents learned a lot.

Kobe praised high about the young players in China. “I saw the young players, I taught them in the morning. They were consistent, and they have the passion on the game. They all love to play, and they have hunger to learn. And if you have those, they help them to become successful because that was the start. You have to have the thirst to learn, you have to have to desire to be great. And they have that, that’s why I keep coming back to teach them and show them more, because I see their eyes.”

After Changchun, Kobe will go to other Chinese cities of Hangzhou, Guangzhou and Chengdu. Before leaving his fans here, Kobe said “I Love You” in Chinese, and this shocked all the people there.

A heavy blow for Stankovic Cup host China in their first day loss to the Australian Boomers. Yi Jianlian lead China and the game in scoring but it was not enough for China to win the very close game against Australia. Team China was caught with too many fouls and thus the offense was slow. David Andersen for Australia could not be reckoned with on either ends of the court. But his smooth shot and vision is what helped the Boomers stick out a close win against China.
